Social Thinking®

In October last year (2012) Christine and Gloria spent 2 weeks in the United States participating in Social Thinking® training, based on Michelle Garcia Winner’s work. They undertook training at The Stern Center in Burlington, Vermont, with Social Thinking® trainers, Nancy Clements and Nancy Cotton. What an amazing experience they had! The training involved an intensive mix of theory and observation at The Stern Center with other highly experienced autism professionals.

Once the Training Program was completed, Christine and Gloria then made their way across to the beautiful state of Oregon, to the capital city of Portland, to attend a 3 day conference run by Michelle Garcia Winner, where they were thrilled to be present at the inaugural presentation of the Social Thinking® Preschool Program – ‘THE INCREDIBLE FLEXIBLE YOU’®.

‘THE INCREDIBLE FLEXIBLE YOU’® program has been designed to introduce children with autism spectrum disorders who are in preschool and early years of schooling to the concepts of Social Thinking®, with a curriculum involving stories and songs designed to develop the concepts of social cognition and social thinking.

Christine and Gloria are excited to bring their knowledge and experience to children and families in Melbourne.

Christine and Gloria have been admirers of the work of the renowned speech pathologist Michelle Garcia Winner. They have used the principles of Social Thinking® in their work with children and adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome and high functioning autism for many years.

The Social Thinking® Training in Vermont gave Christine and Gloria a wonderful opportunity to meet other Social Thinking® experts and forge links with practitioners in the United States. They gained a wealth of experience to add to their knowledge and practice in bringing the principles and practices of Social Thinking® to Spectrum Speech Pathology.

Christine and Gloria and the Team at Spectrum Speech Pathology are pleased to offer groups based on the principles and practices of Social Thinking®.
